in my never ending simultaneous quests to save money n' make stuff, i've turned to designing some of the furniture for my new apartment. so this deceptively simple looking 2-D vector art above is actually well on its way to being my new headboard. i think this might be one of my most genius inventions! Really all a headboard is is a piece of wood, sometimes upholstered. So I made a template in illustrator to scale, printed it to scale, and i know a guy in brooklyn who can cut it out of wood for me. then it's just a couple quotes of high gloss paint to match my bedframe and a bed is born :)

i went through several designs before deciding on the nyc skyline (lion's heads, an abstract horse thing, and a giant chanel logo, to name a few). A skyline seems like a pretty obvious idea for a headboard because the shape is already there. i put the two tallest buildings on the outside (obviously my skyline is not a to scale replica but whatevs) because i wanted to get the gothic drama of something like this. mixed with the clean lines and industrial modernism of the recognizable skyline shape, its a wonder cb2 hasn't thought of this already! can't wait to show you guys the finished results!

in my neverending quest for inspiration, I've started looking at band posters. obvi, they always have awesome graphics and cool typography, so I'm not sure why this didn't occur to me before. I'm usually drawn to the more vector-y artwork, stuff that looks deceptively simple, with clean lines and bright colors. check 'em all out here.

so i'm pretty sure that pic in the middle is actually someone's closet, but i'm gonna go ahead and say it's my dream living room. i lovvvvve the pink settee and a nice shoe collection makes for great wall decor. and hello! they have a fireplace in there!

off to see alice in wonderland at the castro theatre. really cannot explain why it's taken me so long to see this movie. in all honesty, i would have been there on opening night, but guests in town meant eating at slanted door and drinking martinis at the top of the mark instead. oh well, can't complain :)

since i can't stop thinking about it, i'd better start blogging about it. here are some things i've found, mostly from dear old design sponge and my long lost love bleubird vintage. clearly i'm a bit confused about what i really want my new apt to look like. vintage or modern? wood or metal? neutrals or prints? dark or light? moustaches or...just kidding! there will definitely be moustaches. there will also definitely be the "loop" chair from UO, the nicest piece of furniture urban outfitters has ever created, and perhaps also the most uncomfortable looking. love it!

when i was little my dad thought i'd grow up to be a criminal mastermind because i was always scheming about stealing and getting away with things. luckily, my cat burglar days are over and my record still clean, but recently i can't stop thinking about maximum security prisons. it's a strange obsession, admittedly, but ever since me and pops went to alcatraz last weekend, i've had prison life on the brain. i've watched the rock, escape from alcatraz, and shawshank redemption the past couple nights. oh and a prophet! great movie. anyway, this is a photo i took while on alcatraz. i love the contrast of the barbed wire against the sunset. it's next to impossible to imagine being incarcerated on alcatraz, but its still fun to try.

I just bought this bravery necklace from wildcatters on Etsy and I'm so excited for its arrival. Once I put it on for the first time, I don't think I'll ever take it off. The funny thing is I found a necklace just like it at the Curiosity Shoppe on Valencia and came this close to buying it, but luckily didn't because the vintage brass bravery necklace is so much better!

It would be hard to avoid or ignore the mania surrounding the release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (nor would I want to, hey, I'm more excited than anyone!) but this Anthropologie lamp, while inspired by the movie, is on a completely different level. I love it that much more because it just screams, "i'm the easiest diy ever!" Thrift stores always have teacups and lamps. Hardware store always have spray paint. I am a firm believer that a couple layers of paint goes a long way in unifying all sorts of found objects and elevating them from garage sale quirky to Jonathan Adler chic.

i love when i totally forget about a brand and then it pops up one day and its so much better than i remembered. long gone are the days of fcuk t-shirts. now they have this extremely dreamy double wrap belt which will be mine one day very soon (double belt mystery solved!). and a really over the top sequin number which reminds me of a see by chloe dress i happened upon one time at buffalo exchange. i didn't buy it because it was a large and i was swimming in it, but in hindsight i really should have just snatched it up and belted it or something. duh.

this outfit was inspired by no shortage of fellow bloggers, designers, and fictional characters: cocorosa, proenza schouler, alexander wang, blair waldorf, erin wasson, madeline, the list goes on. it sounds like i am accepting an award or something, but really i am just appreciating how reading all of your blogs has opened my eyes to so many things and broadened my horizons. the old me would never have noticed this sweater hanging on the rack at h&m, and would certainly not have thought to buy it in the largest size possible, but alas, i have, and it is my new favorite thing. so thanks bloggers! even though my wallet may hate you because reading you everyday is like shopping 24/7, i will always love you!

Feeling lacy

i fell in love with the lace t-shirt from LnA many moons ago, but could never quite justify the $88 pricetag. So when this lil' white lace tee popped out of nowhere, in the most unexpected of stores, for a third of the price, I was sold. I got it in the biggest size possible, because semi see through lace + skin tight seemed like a bad combo. plus i have my aa lace onesie for those purposes. my first thought was to pair the feminine top with my grungy black motorcycle boots, but i also think the lace top could work with other nude, frilly, frothy pieces. as soon as i acquire said froth. my closet is severely lacking in the frothy department. frothy.

another mundane monday. luckily we have asos free online magazine! my head is bursting with excitement and inspiration by this wang inspired editorial. if only i could find that perfect holey sweater on the asos website, to make up for my disappointment that my beloved erin wasson x rvca sweater was attached to a whopping $569 price tag. this might have to be another diy project but i'm hoping one of my fave bloggers leads the way on this one...i'm also head over heels in love with the lace up boots in the first and fourth pics.

the elusive double wrap belt

I've been wanting a black double wrap belt for a while, even before I saw this, which of course, only quadrupled my desire. i figured if Phillip Lim has one, pretty soon all the high street shops will too. But somehow no. I guess it hasn't caught on?!? Does no one else love the combo of chic simplicity and subtle edge awarded the wearer of a double wrap belt? I have scoured all my usual online haunts, and all I have found are some horribly studded numbers and some horribly expensive non-studded numbers from Asos. Can't a girl have an affordable non studded belt? Aren't studs extra, meaning they should cost more? Or have the prevalence of studs become synonymous with cheap? I'm all about studs in moderation, but I gotta say, I'm getting a little sick of them. Anyway, my searching frustration led to a google search which led to the depths of the internet. The perfect black double wrap belt was available on J.Jill, and I even ordered it! Before finding out it was backordered until April 16 (what?! that's like lifetimes away!) and canceling my order. So I'm back to square 1. And now semi-seriously considering just buying the damn Phillip Lim belt or the somehow even more expensive see by chloe version. Oh wait. That one is sold out too.

IRO S/S 10

I spent a lot of time drooling over IRO's fall collection, but it only just occurred to me to check out S/S 10. it's pretty much equally as awesome. I would say IRO is my favorite label right now, but I think i love their styling more than i love the actual designs. I only say this because I can never find any of the cool pieces around the interwebs. The stuff that makes it to online stores is really blah and there's nowhere I know of in SF to actually go touch, and smell, and try anything on. So for now i guess i'll just have to drool over the photos and find my own turquoise suede vests, paperbag shorts, silk shirts, and destroyed tees a la balmain. And how good would all of these outfits look with my new shoe love?

The problem with online shopping is how easy it is to convince yourself to order several items at once, you know, for the combined shipping! I came looking for a peach leather skirt, and now I have like $400 dollars worth of goodies in my shopping cart. I was able to exhibit some self control today (surprisingly) but I don't think I'll be so lucky on Friday (aka paycheck day! woot!). Just found this amazing jewelry designer on Etsy. Fleathers is the brainchild of Linda Smyth, and the Rabid Fox line, which is right up my alley, is co-created with Rebecca Pulver. I am particularly fawning over the knuckle duster and 2 finger rings. These are so spot on, but sadly just out of my price range. I feel weird about buying myself semi-expensive jewelry. I sort of draw the line at $4.99 rings at f21. sad, but true. too bad i don't have a bday, christmas, anniversary, or valentine's day coming up...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the pics don't do these justice. I imagine they are even more amazing in person. Also, on a side note, I've discovered that etsy is really lacking in centaur and minotaur jewelry. Can someone get on that please?

4 miles and a couple stars

About a month ago, Matt and I bought tickets for the Party among the Stars event at the Chabot Space and Science Center through Groupon and then promptly forgot all about it. For some reason today it occurred to me and lo and behold it was tonight...fortuitous coincidence. Maybe we should have done a little research before hitting purchase because a. the chabot space and science center is not in san francisco, it is in oakland. ok not a big deal, but b. it is nowhere near a BART stop. so I google mapped it of course, and that led us to a long bus ride and an even longer walk. no big deal, we said, its nice out tonight and walking through the park is sure to be pretty. umm. but no. for starters, the 33 minute walk was actually a 4.5 mile walk (uphill). it wasn't really a walk though because a road through a park with no sidewalk and not a single street lamp is pretty damn scary so we wound up running a lot of the way. good thing i've been treadmilling lately. i was in shape to run for my life. how many wild animals are we thinking live in parks? like how close did we come to being mauled by a bear? anyway, a nice couple offered us a ride once we were already 98% of the way there, but its the thought that counts. and after throwing a bit of a hissy fit about the planetarium being sold out, we scored some tickets, only to leave 20 minutes in because it was actually just a light show!?!?! it was like my mac's screensaver projected on the ceiling set to coldplay music. i can do most of that at home. i wanted to learn about planets for once! ok enough complaining. time to hit the hay. it was a long 4 day week.

tried to show off my new ring in these pics. its like a big gold doily. i still have to get used to wearing rings all day. at a certain point they start bugging me and i have to take them off. i tried to fight the urge today though. wearing a ring is like a hug for your finger. and fingers need love too, right?

after a sort of impulsive faux leather motorcycle jacket purchase from f21 last year and then consequently wearing said motorcycle jacket to death i found myself wanting/needing a replacement. of course i wanted it to be some amazing rick owens number, but that ain't gonna happen. i was browsing the sale section at urban outfitters over the weekend, um, the sale section that just happened to be an additional 50% off! it was crazy. piles of clothes everywhere! i get frustrated in crowds, everyone pushing and shoving, so i just grabbed a ton of stuff and figured i'd work things out in the privacy and roominess of my fitting room. lo and behold this magical jacket was in my pile. its a dusty light blue tone which fits in perfectly with my new spring aesthetic, no more black leather puhleese. i'm all about the soft suede, even if it is fake suede, and the blue is such a beautiful unexpected shade. it's a couple sizes too big on me, which makes for some nice drapey action. the icing on my blue suede cake was that this jacket originally retailed for $99. it was then marked down $60, plus 50% off and with my $30 gift card i brought my new friend home for 2 buckaroos. doesn't get any better than that :)

pendleton x opening ceremony

instead of crying over the fact that a. i missed out on the pendleton x opening ceremony collection and b. i wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway, i decided to take matters into my own hands. illustrator is a print lovers best friend. i started with navajo but ikat is coming soon. now just need to find a t shirt website that will really let me customize to my hearts content. i'm loving the t shirt options on zazzle (hello destroyed tee by alternative apparel) but i'm not convinced yet. still looking. any recommendations? anyway here's what an entire afternoon of sitting at work but having no actual work to do but having a mac that works a million times faster than my nearly dead 5 year old mac at home will get you:

obviously i was inspired mostly by the blue jacket on the right. i'm in love with that jacket. and the jacket next to that. and the jacket on the far left. will a t-shirt with a half-assed print really satiate me?

Rodarte Fall 2010

As I've said before on this here blog, my two current obsessions are ethnic prints (navajo style, ikat, i like it all) and pale neutrals. So when I saw Rodarte's Fall 2010 collection, I was hooked. The first look rocks what looks like a handwoven blanket for a skirt against a backdrop of creams and nudes, not to mention the most amazing sheer embroidered and beaded leggings. The collection continued to impress me all the way through to the end with the spot on sillhouettes and playful combination of textures and prints. Who knew leather, suede, sheer, fur, beadwork, ribbed knits, watercolor prints, tartan, and carpet like fringe could work together so seamlessly?

Since I can't afford Rodarte, here's some inspiration to take from this collection:

1. Monochramatic creamy frothy neutrals in different materials and textures
2. A ribbon tied around the ankles and over knee high socks looks very grungy ballerina and is the easiest diy ever.
3. An all-neutral outfit with a splash of bold and bright textiles looks fresh and perfect for spring.

big sur and beyond

We didn't make it to santa barbara, but a swell weekend was still had by all. instead of spending 5 or so hours in the car, we decided to enjoy the amazing weather by sticking around big sur on saturday and then heading to carmel and monterey on sunday. i couldn't have asked for a better trip. crab cakes, card games, log cabins, beers on the beach at sundown, mimosas at a restaurant so far up the mountain that the fog is actually below you, garlic world, valentine's day dinner at the cutest restaurant with an outhouse for a bathroom! and some of the best skate and calamari i've ever tasted. driving down route 1 was fun, until i felt like i was going to puke up all my road snacks. the highlight was definitely pulling off and hiking down to the beach. not only did we have the beach all to ourselves, but we had our own private waterfall. damn. should have taken a pic of the waterfall. it wasn't exactly bathing suit weather, but in pants and a sweatshirt i was positively toasty and vitamin d never felt so good :) i got the green military coat from h&m just a couple hours before hitting the road, and didn't really take it off the whole weekend. it's the perfect light jacket for this northern california weather.

after a solid 3 months of ditching navy blue and cavorting with its evil twin, all black ensembles, i've moved on. give me nudes! i'm loving these creamy frothy looks. everything just looks better in nude, no? it's just as sexy as black, but in a more subtle, come hither kind of way. winks! extra points for pairing with grungy black boots, whether they be motorcyle boots or doc martens, is up to you.

so excited for this upcoming three day weekend and a mini roadtrip to Santa Barbara where it will be a whopping 70 degrees and sunny! words cannot describe how happy that makes me. plus i love road trips. love listening to the radio. love driving down the coast. love stopping for crappy food haha. i also started (and finished) On The Road by Kerouac this weekend. It was so amazing I couldn't put it down. And it sure is the best thing to read before a road trip. although it put me more in the mood for the hitchhiking and stealing cars variety :)

Well, it's barely 10am and I've already shopped my little heart out. Can't help it. I want. I want! Plus I finally joined the gym yesterday so I needed to reward myself :)
I was very happy to see that Solestruck finally had my size in these shoes that I have probably talked about way too much, but now they will finally be mine on Tuesday!
The tights are from Asos and I love them. I am constantly falling in love with tights.
The racerback I just bought off Gilt from Boy Meets Girl. My very first gilt purchase! I love the gold detailing on the pocket, and I always love pockets on tanks for some reason. Not sure that I'd ever put anything in there so...wait, what are those pockets for?

browsing Asos, I was mildly disgusted to see Kristen Cavalleri or whatever her name is. But I did fall in love with this jacket. I scoured the jackets section and didn't see anything from Asos even resembling this gold wonderfulness. sad. but i moved on with my life. enter absolutely oblivious. thanks Mega for posting the Camilla & Marc ss10 collection! How have I never heard of them before? Their glorious shoulder pads are spot on. for the purposes of taking photos my apartment is like a cave. otherwise i love you apartment but lighten up! (ha!) i've been banished to the bathroom (more specifically the shower) for future photo sessions. suddenly, the abandoned office is seeming so chic, no?

anyhoo, tonight was the anniversary so a yummy dinner was had at our fave restaurant in the Mish Mish, Range. It was even better than I had remembered. I had the sole, portuguese cabbage, trumpet mushroom chowder with parsley puree. after 7 weeks and a very long journey from Hong Kong my drop crotch sweatpants are finally in my life. smilyface!!! i wore them as soon as i could and they did not disappoint. i was skeptical about the one size fits all thing, and they are tighter on me than the tiny girl from the website but no matter! i love them just the same. they are like leggings, but the butt is saggy enough that you don't have to feel slutty about not wearing pants. haha im sure that made them sound very appealing. bottom line is they are pants! woohoo! I paired them with my granny lace up jeffrey campbell heels and a nice blazer so i could wear them to work. yep. i wore sweatpants to work. best. thing. ever.

stupid phil saw his shadow, which means 6 more weeks of winter. not that that really applies to me, since it was like 70 degrees here on saturday, but i feel for my homies in new york. so while it's warm here, it wasn't quite warm enough yesterday to wear my new floral number without a sweater. so i didn't get to show off the black contrasting pocket or the exposed back zipper, but they are there! i thought about the zipper all day in fact because it was so damn cold against my skin.

that's right. this is my 100th post. go and count 'em if you don't believe me. 100 posts in just over 2 months. i guess i need a new hobby :)

I'm awfully proud of today's outfit because a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into it. well not so much blood or tears. actually not really sweat either. just a lot of time i suppose. i bought the skirt when i first started my job and thought i'd have to look very presentable every day. ha! since i had no need for an ugly long black skirt, i made it a little project. i added the exposed zipper down one seam and shortened the hem line considerably.

the cardigan had been sitting in my closet for ages and wasn't getting any love. it used to be beige. now it is gray! my favorite color. dyeing clothes is a little bit too much fun...

I figure once I'm settled back in Brooklyn, I'll do some research and splurge on a real sewing machine. Plus, now I have the joy of choosing my replacement christmas gift. Today was a cold and rainy monday in the bay area so some pops of color to brighten my mood were so necessary. like in a jay-z way. i chose pink and yellow, girly colors to accompany a menswear inspired outfit. this seems to be my go to lately. collared shirt, zara harem trousers. i piled on the gold jewelry to make it more me, less office casual. ick. i am so jealous of all the bloggers who are still in college (or high school) and can therefore wear whatever they want. and sleep in. and drink lots of whiskey on tuesdays. wait did i just say i was jealous of bloggers in high school? um, yeah i take that back.

I just hope I don't OD on all this craftiness. It's so nice to wear your own clothes out, even if its something you could have bought at the store. Also, if you live in SF, you have to check out the Painted Bird in the Mission. oh my goodness. i could have spent $200 in there, and their prices are more than reasonable. i'm talking like an amazing bleached denim vest for $11.99! Vintage fringe sweaters for $24.99! So instead of buying the whole store, I ran away as fast as I could. Anyhoo, on to the outfit!

Wore this to meet some friends for dinner last night at Pauline's Pizza. Got the shorts at F21 for a whopping $5. That is most certainly because they are pjs, but shhh, let's just pretend otherwise. Boxers as outwear is very IRO.

The floral leggings are my new obsession. I've been wanting a pair forever, before I really even knew they existed. I have dreams of cutting the feet off when the weather warms up, and wearing them as bike shorts under some scandalously low 501 cutoffs.

Now I want to put zippers on everything! Often, in the most impractical places. So far I've added a zipper to a boring black pencil skirt, 2 aa racerbacks, and I'm just dying to do some leggings next, like my dream pair from LnA. Also, those socks with zippers are just too cool.

This weekend was SF Moma's 75th anniversary (that means free) so this morning we dragged ourselves out of bed and braved the rainy weather. We only had to wait outside for 20 minutes or so (sweet!) and then inside we went. Highlights were Rauschenberg's erased De Kooning (amazing!), all 12 of R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet videos played simultaneously (weird), Penelope Umbrico's Suns from Flickr installation (pic below), and of course, seeing the massive Michael Jackson and Bubbles sculpture by Jeff Koons. Uh, also the most awesomely uncomfortable looking chair that I just need to have in my apartment, and Felix Gonzales-Torres golden beaded curtain and light installation. So many pretty things, so many photo ops. Afterwards I spent the worst $18 of my life at California Pizza Kitchen. I used to go there all the time with my mom and had such fond memories. I thought for sure it would be even better in its home state! I think my taste buds have matured or something...

Oh, and just to make this post slightly fashion related, I think my whole outfit cost me under $20. Jeans, F21 $7; tie dyed t, thrifted $2; hoodie, aa thrifted $10, diy headband and necklace. oh crap i was wearing shoes. and a leather jacket. ok nevermind.

Lazy Saturdays

Saturday is my favorite day of the week because I get to sleep in and then hit up the fabric store to get supplies for the week's projects. I don't usually get dressed up for the occasion, but yesterday I wanted to test drive my new Levi's cutoffs. I bought them at Buffalo Exchange for $6 last week. They were 3 sizes too big and really highwaisted. Perfect! They were a really dark denim though, and once they were cut into shorts, I decided I wanted them a little lighter. I must have used 3 gallons of bleach before they started to change color. It was kind of a bleach nightmare. Boyfriend complained about the smell for DAYS. Anyway, now they are the perfect color, but they do have some strange pink spots from overbleaching. oops.

in other news, aldo has the best...accessories!?!!? and so cheap. I just picked up two awesome necklaces for the price of um, pho, and I might have to go back to get some very adorable rainbow wayfarers.

You guys have probably seen this elsewhere on the interwebs (as my dad likes to call them), but I'm loving some of TV's A/W 10 Collection so much that I just had to post some of my faves. I love that it all looks like the perfect vintage piece. Except for the stuff that looks like the most perfectly tailored piece, like that deliciously structured skirt. yum! mostly, though I neeed that floral bathing suit 2 piece number. Unfortunamente, this stuff is only available in NYC, and LA. Bad SF! Very bad!

Cosby sweaters!

Just found out that my coworker's mom was the costume designer for The Cosby Show!!! In addition to the fact that being a costume designer is a super sweet job, cosby sweaters are so unbelievably hip right now. I can't walk into a thrift store these days without seeing an entire rack dedicated to these colorful little gems. Of course I had to ask her a million questions. Apparently, Bill (yes, we're on a first name basis for the purposes of this post :) decided he didn't want to wear suits, so they decided sweaters were the way to go! It all started with a sweater with little baby footprints (he was an OBGYN) and then people started sending in all sorts of crazy handmade sweaters. Bill loved 'em and the rest is history!

i never ever wear this dress because the whole wrap shape makes it scandalously low cut. but thanks to my good old friend, lace dress, i had the perfect accompaniment. i may have pulled my dress down even further for dramatic effect for this photo, but no matter, you get the idea. so two dresses. swell.

moving right along, the other photos were taken on a rainy, sleepy evening coming back from ikea on saturday. the bay bridge just looked so pretty and i wanted to get a good sf skyline pic. they're a little blurry (i was in a moving car, after all) but i kind of like the effect.

That just made my Tuesday. I don't think all that much about what I eat, but it also appeals to me to eat more locally grown, healthy, sustainable foods, less processed foods, less sugar, less meat, etc, etc. Michael Pollan's book sounds like a nice cross between giving you info and motivation, without making you feel ridiculed or guilty. I think this little post and its implied intention are about as close as I've ever come to making a new year's resolution. we'll see how long it lasts. currently, i'm too obsessed with pork fried rice to really make any headway.

I've never really been all that into high fashion. I mean, I don't need to have name brand stuff. I know a lot of people in the blogosphere feel guilty buying Aldo or Steve Madden knock-offs, but I'm definitely not one of those people. Thank goodness, I spend enough money on clothes as it is. Lately, though, I think I've been bit by the Chanel bug. I can't get enough of the logo, the packaging, the whole aesthetic. Browsing through Chanel's wares on polyvore, I found myself most drawn to the stuff that wasn't even made by Chanel. Specifically, Chanel t-shirts!!! Such a fab combo of stuffy high fashion and comfy just rolled out of bed style. I must have one. This is sold out, soooooo I'm feeling a diy coming on.

Well, actually much to my dismay they are green. I've been wanting yellow socks ever since I laid eyes on this.

So I planned my outfit around the socks. Strange. But I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm wearing my new lace dress (estate sale find) with a t-shirt on top, to make it more office appropriate? when is wearing a t-shirt ever office appropriate? not sure. anyway, i liked the idea of having the skirt peek out the bottom, and the lace peek out the top. black blazer? now that is office appropriate.

i am just dying to start another diy project. I want to make a cropped t-shirt, maybe with feathers for shoulder pads? still trying to work that one out in my head. taking a sewing class this weekend!!! and then i can start using my new sewing machine!! (thank you boyfriend for the best xmas present ever!!)

Matt and I saw Nine last night. As much as I love musicals, I was pretty underwhelmed by the whole thing, although Daniel Day Lewis is always amazing, Marion Cotillard was absolutely stunning, and I love that Kate Hudson sang this song.

Even better than DDL's Italian accent was the Castro theater where we saw the film. Complete with neon lit sign out front, adorable stand alone box office (very retro! why didn't I bring my camera!), gilded walls, box seats, and wrap around staircase to the mezzanine. I went to get a soda before the movie started, and when I got back, a little man and risen up from beneath the stage and was playing the organ. He was probably normal sized but next to the giant screen and giant red curtain he looked positively tiny. And he was playing music from the movie! It made my night :) If you are in SF, you really need to go see a movie at the Castro Theater. It's like going back in time for a couple hours.

After a yummy brunch at lovejoy's tea room with matt's sis and her gf, we got to play around on their new honda scooter. I've always wanted a vespa myself so this was quite a treat. Kind of scary at first though, I have to admit, especially when you aren't the one controlling the thing.

And on a completely unrelated note, i can finally show off the awesome mural next to my house! It's right next door and the perfect place for all my outfit photo shoots (um hello so much better than the bathroom at work?!) but it's rarely sunny, er or even light out when I am home. I have always always wanted to go to an estate sale and today I found one. I was just leaving American Rag, which was very disappointing as everything was way too clean and new-looking and expensive. I was in the mood to dig for vintage treasures and the estate sale around the corner, at like Van Ness and Sutter? was the perrrrfect place. If any of you guys live in SF, you have to check out this place. There's a new estate sale almost every week!

Ok, here's what I got:
100% silk beaded, sequined top $10 (!!!!!)
Dress with navy blue lace on top and full ice skating-esque skirt. eat your heart out AA :) $8 Can't wait to wear this in the spring in the park. Ahh spring. You are going to be so wonderful.

First stud project completed! Here it is folks. I know you've been waiting with bated breath. I was so happy with it I wore it to work on Thursday AND THEN out for new years. That's the beauty of a good studded belt. It works with anyfing! Now onto my converse. Anyone have a good trick for getting the studs through shoe. It ain't easy.

Had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. The best part was seeing Ghostland Observatory's sad sad city (obvi) for the second time and the Silent Disco on the mezzanine. So I didn't come back from Toronto with any pictures. Me and my fam sitting in front of the fire and eating amazing food for 4 days was just what the doctor ordered but didn't provide many interesting photo ops. I was dreading coming back to work this morning, until I remembered the package that was waiting for me. 100 pyramid studs from studs&spikes which beats the pants off britex when it comes to needing studs. what a fool i was to pay $2 for 12 studs when i could get 100 from studs&spikes for a mere $8! anyway, now i can get started on all my studding projects! i think i more excited about doing the actual studding than i am to wear any of my studded articles, but the free belt i got at indie industries needs SOMEthing and well, it's gonna be studs! Even though I'm leaving for Canada tonight, I still feel like I have the right to complain about how freaking cold it is in SF. This morning I was so cold I grabbed my boyfriend's warmest sweater. I don't even care how it looks. Warm is all that matters.

fashion is a slippery slope, no? i lust over things and then i buy them, or maybe i don't, but either way soon i'm lusting over something else and i have this crazy itch to get it which isn't satisfied until i do, but that only lasts, oh, maybe a day? then it's on to something new. or several somethings new. the only thing that has been able to put a stop to it (no probably just a dent) is seeing my amex bill, due in 2 weeks. oh my. my first thought was omg someone stole my credit card. but then i looked through and yep, lo and behold, all clothes i had bought in the past month. sheesh. so for now i'm going to stick to shopping on polyvore. that's safe right?

but first wanted to share this lovely new backdrop I discovered for photo-ing, the abandoned office down the hall. industrial chic?...or something.
Monday I fell in love all over again with my forever 21 plaid pencil skirt. It has been sitting in my drawer for years and years, but it's just the right amount of tight, mixed with the right amount of sexy librarian, plus little pockets!? I'm sold.
Today was my I'm-so-excited-for-new-years-but-its-a-week-away-plus-I-have-to-work-today outfit. Sparkly shoulders, sparkly shoes.
Off to Toronto tomorrow for some much need christmas family snuggle time. wooohoooo!

are a girl's best friend. I feel like I had these when I was in 3rd grade. That's probably what makes them so cool. Love all these, but I have a sneaking suspicion they are selling them for like $5 outside the 24th street bart. be there or be square. side note: i don't technically have my ears pierced so if my one or two faithful readers could find these in a clip-on version i'd be eternally grateful.
